English Homework Week 1

Orange class English Home learning lesson 1 W.C.1.6.20

For this lesson we are going to be looking at the traditional tale of ‘Jack & The Beanstalk’, where we will continue to focus on developing our reading & comprehension skills.  You can choose between a link on the LGFL website (with accompanying online games to complete that link to the story) or an animated version of the story on the BBC website & YouTube, or a shorter animated version on the British Council website. There are questions to accompany the story that your child can complete verbally as well as a drawing task.

For a screen free option, there are some differentiated spelling sheets that can be completed by printing off the accompanying files for groups 1, 2 & 3 (each sheet varies in difficulty on a scale of Group 1 being the easiest task and group 3 being the most challenging).  If you do not have access to a printer, this task can be completed on any paper to hand, using the thumbnail images in the lesson as a guide.

Orange class English Home learning lesson 2 W.C.1.6.20

For this lesson, we are going to continue to use the new Reading Eggs website after last week’s successful trial.  If you have not done so already, please complete an initial assessment (a placement test) followed by the allocated English tasks.  Everyone will have received an email with their unique login details (username & password) please use these details to log in to the Reading Eggs website by clicking on the link in the lesson.  If you have not received this email contact me via:  If you do not have access to a screen, there is also an optional ‘screen free’ task where your child can complete the ‘Summer Time Word Hunt’ challenge, where the winner will get the star of the week certificate.  If you would like to continue to do some extra reading, there is also a web link to the Oxford Owls website with details of the Orange Class login for free access to the Oxford Reading Tree e-library.

Take photos on your smart phone of the results of some of the activities that you have enjoyed and email it to me at: or

Have fun while you are at home & we will see you all soon. J
