In yellow class over the last half term, Yellow class have been very busy! We have welcomed a new member to our class and everyone has settled well into the new routines of the year. Unfortunately we had some sad news when we returned back to school after the Christmas holiday, as our two class goldfishes (Yusef & Goldie) died over the Christmas holiday and the children were very sad about this news; thankfully Diesel the hamster was able to provide some comfort. The children have also had lots of fun with their interactions with Alfie the Therapy dog on their weekly visits on Friday, and this will continue throughout the rest of the year too.
In Maths we have been learning different ways to measure, looking in particular at, length, capacity, volume & mass by comparing objects and ordering them. We have also learned how to use objects or a number line to help us with our subtraction skills.
In English we have explored different ways of ‘Writing for a Purpose’ within the Functional English unit and have written various lists, shopping lists, menus, instructions and invitations as part of our theme of ‘Planning a Party’. The students have really enjoyed the experience of sharing this experience with the friends that they invited and had lots of fun at the party.
In PSHE we have developed our understanding of issues relating to relationships & personal space with within the ‘Sex Education’ topic and continued to explore the importance of their responsibilities at Oaktree and the importance of rules and through ‘Student Voice’.
During this half term, Yellow class were fortunate enough to have their turn for ‘Out & About’ and were able explore the school grounds and visit the local area as well in Grovelands Park near Southgate, to explore the wildlife around us.
In Independence, we have developed our independence and self-care skills and cemented our sense of responsibility through our classroom jobs. We have also developed our skills in recognising our strengths & interest to help us with our CV writing skills in preparation for Sixth form.
It has been a very short but busy term in Yellow class and we are all looking forward to the next half term with anticipation.
