Although our staff at school have many ideas for things that can make Oaktree an even better place, our students also have good ideas – and we want to hear them.
So this year we are changing the name of our School Council to Student Voice and are giving more time to hear their views about school life.
At their first meeting, Student Voice agreed that we would support the Children In Need Charity and take part in this years theme of 'Sponsored Challenge'. We hope that each class will come up with a suitable challenge that they can all be sponsored for. Watch this space!!
In the past our School Council has had a very strong voice in the School. They met once a month to discuss school issues. They reporedt on matters of Health & Safety and brought the needs and opinions of their groups to the attention of the Council.
They were involved in school-life in many other ways too. They helped to decide the dishes on the school menu, they decided upon the design for an outside adventure playground, and assisted with a school travel plan. Representatives also helped on occasions such as Sports Day and Coffee mornings.
The School Council were also involved in fundraising for organisations and charities, such as St Mungo’s, Cancer Research and local homeless groups. They organised a collection of socks for homeless adults. One more unusual project was a collection of old jewellery which was made into literacy and numeracy resources by a multi-sensory play therapist in a neighbouring Enfield school.
Councillors were featured in the local Press when they campaigned for a safer crossing near our school.
