Oaktree: Connect with Your Greatness: The Science curriculum at Oaktree promotes growth across each of the three journeys, supporting students in developing meaningful connections with themselves, their communities and the world.

Journey 1: Science is part of Knowledge and Understanding of the World, using a Non Subject Specific approach to nurture curiosity. Students explore familiar topics such as the seasons, weather, animals and humans, learning through their daily experiences. Activities focus on observation and exploration, helping students understand how Science relates to their local community and everyday life. This sensory-rich foundation builds awareness of the natural world and its impact on them.

Journey 2: deepens students’ exploration of scientific concepts, encouraging them to ask “why” and “how” questions about the world. Practical activities help them investigate phenomena like changes in materials, forces and simple ecosystems, fostering a sense of inquiry and critical thinking. This stage supports students in making connections between their observations and basic scientific ideas while maintaining an accessible, hands-on approach.

Journey 3: introduces more advanced scientific processes, focusing on states of matter, energy and systems like weather patterns and food chains. Students engage in experiments, forming hypotheses and testing them, developing systematic and analytical thinking. Cross-curricular links with Horticulture and other subjects provide a holistic approach, preparing students to apply Science in practical and meaningful ways.

Through these journeys, the Science curriculum at Oaktree empowers students to connect with their greatness by cultivating curiosity, resilience and a lifelong love of learning. Each journey reflects the school’s commitment to holistic development, ensuring every student thrives academically, socially and emotionally.
